Things you must remember.
Preparing for your surgery is very important.
To insure your comfort and reduce the risk of any complications
during your surgery, please read the following instructions carefully.
In the event that these instructions are not followed, your surgery
will be subject to cancellation. We are very concerned about your
welfare.
Food and drink.
DO
NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING AFTER 11PM THE DAY BEFORE YOUR SURGERY
(including gum or mints).
Smoking.
DO
NOT SMOKE AFTER 11PM THE DAY BEFORE YOUR SURGERY.
Smoking causes bronchial irritation
and may increase the likelihood of breathing problems during and
after anesthesia.
Medication.
Routine oral medications should be taken
as prescribed with a sip of water, if needed, on the day of your
surgery. If you take Insulin or Coumadin, your surgeon will give
you instructions for taking these medications on the day of your
surgery. Notify your physician if you are taking diet suppressant
medication and follow the directions you are given.
Clothing and hygiene.
The morning of your surgery you will need
to prepare by bathing or showering, removing all make-up, nail
polish and jewelry. You will need to wear loose-fitting casual
clothing and comfortable shoes. We ask that you please leave all
your valuables at home.
Pregnancy.
If you suspect you are pregnant, please
notify your surgeon immediately. Anesthesia and medications may
be harmful to a developing fetus.
Changes in your health.
You will need to report any changes in
your health to your surgeon, even minor changes such as a cough,
cold or fever.
